Captain Driver hid Old Glory inside a bedcover (a coverlet) in his Nashville home, sewing the flag into the quilt to keep it from Confederate forces. He later revealed it when Union troops entered Nashville and he presented the flag to Brigadier General William “Bull” Nelson, who then had it run up the Capitol flagstaff.
