Hurricane Allen made landfall on the Texas coast near Port Mansfield, just northeast of Brownsville, around 12:30 AM CDT on August 10, 1980. The storm was a powerful Cape Verde hurricane at peak strength and weakened somewhat by the time it reached the coast, but still brought strong winds, storm surge, and heavy rainfall to southern Texas. Its landfall location is often described as the Lower Texas coast, in the Padre Island/Port Mansfield area, with the eye crossing near that region.
