Bhutan is a landlocked country located in South Asia, in the Eastern Himalayas. It lies between China to the north and northwest and India to the south, southwest, and east. The country is situated on the southern slopes of the eastern Himalayas, with its northern border defined by the Xuigiang Range of the eastern Himalayan Mountains and bounded to the south by the Brahmaputra River Valley. Bhutan's terrain is mostly steep and high mountains, ranging from about 200 meters in the southern foothills to over 7,000 meters in the northern Himalayas. Its coordinates roughly lie between latitudes 26°N and 29°N and longitudes 88°E and 93°E.
