Fort Stewart is a United States Army post located primarily in Liberty and Bryan counties in the state of Georgia, with parts extending into Evans, Long, and Tattnall counties. It is situated about 40 to 42 miles southwest of Savannah, Georgia. The nearby city of Hinesville, along with Fort Stewart, forms the Hinesville metropolitan area. Fort Stewart is the largest Army installation east of the Mississippi River, covering approximately 280,000 acres. It serves as the home base for the 3rd Infantry Division. The fort is also close to two deepwater ports: Savannah, Georgia (about 42 miles away) and Charleston, South Carolina (about 142 miles away).
