Parihaka is a historic settlement in the Taranaki region of New Zealand, located inland from the coast near Pungarehu. It is best known for its peaceful-appeal resistance led by Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi in the late 19th century and for its later suppression by colonial authorities in 1881. Today, Parihaka is recognized as an important site of Maori history, peace, and cultural memory, with ongoing annual peace-focused events and ongoing ties to the descendants of Te Whiti and Tohu.
