Tel Aviv, officially known as Tel Aviv-Yafo, is a major city in Israel located on the country's Mediterranean coastline. It lies approximately 60 kilometers (about 37 miles) northwest of Jerusalem. The city is part of the Tel Aviv District and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the west, Herzliya to the north, Ramat Gan and Givatayim to the east, and Bat Yam to the south. Tel Aviv was founded in 1909 as a Jewish neighborhood on the outskirts of the ancient port city of Jaffa (Yafo), which it later incorporated in 1950, forming Tel Aviv-Yafo. It is Israel's financial and technological hub, known for its vibrant culture and nightlife.
