Greggs was founded in the 1930s by John Gregg in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The very first bakery shop was located on Gosforth High Street in the Tyne suburb of Newcastle. John Gregg started Greggs as a small local bakery that later grew into the largest bakery chain in the UK under the leadership of his son Ian Gregg after 1964.
