Location and Facility
The explosion took place at Accurate Energetic Systems, a facility located near Bucksnort, approximately 60 miles west of Nashville, on the border between Hickman and Humphreys Counties. The plant specializes in the production, storage, and research of high explosives, including materials used by the U.S. Department of Defense and commercial sectors.
Incident Details
The blast occurred around 7:45 a.m. Central Daylight Time, destroying one of the facility’s buildings entirely. Officials described it as a “very devastating blast” that was felt up to 20 miles away, with residents reporting shaking homes and audible explosions. The explosion generated a large smoke plume detected by weather radar and scattered debris across nearby properties.
Casualties and Response
At least several fatalities have been confirmed, with 19 individuals initially unaccounted for following the explosion. Four to five injured people were medically evacuated to hospitals, including TriStar Health in Dickson. Emergency responders, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the FBI, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, are on- site conducting a joint investigation. Due to the risk of secondary explosions, access to the site has been restricted.
Public Safety and Investigation
Authorities have urged the public to avoid the area to allow emergency operations to proceed without interference. The State Emergency Operations Center in Nashville has been activated at Level 4 – Elevated to support local response efforts. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with federal and state agencies working alongside the company, which is fully cooperating [
