The Salem witch trials were held primarily in Salem Town, which is the regional center for Salem Village (now known as Danvers), in colonial Massachusetts. The trials took place between February 1692 and May 1693. While the accusations began in Salem Village (Danvers), the court proceedings and executions occurred in Salem Town. The special Court of Oyer and Terminer convened in Salem Town to hear the cases of witchcraft, and the hangings took place there as well. Salem Village and other surrounding towns like Andover and Topsfield were involved in accusations and arrests, but the legal trials and punishments centered in Salem Town.
