A common sign or symptom of an asthma attack includes wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing), shortness of breath, chest tightness or pain, coughing, and fast, shallow breathing. Severe attacks may also involve difficulty speaking, gasping for breath, blue lips or fingers, and fatigue.
