The type of seizure that originates on one side of the brain is called a focal seizure. Focal seizures begin in a specific area or one hemisphere of the brain and affect only that side initially. They may cause changes in awareness, behavior, or sensation, or abnormal movements usually on just one side of the body. Focal seizures can sometimes spread to involve the other side of the brain and body, evolving into generalized seizures.
