The trumpet as an instrument has ancient origins dating back thousands of years, emerging from early forms of signaling devices made from hollowed-out animal horns, shells, wood, and metal. However, the modern trumpet, as known today, was invented in the early 19th century. Austrian trumpeter Anton Weidinger invented the keyed trumpet around 1800, which allowed playing a full chromatic range. Subsequently, German horn players Heinrich David Stölzel and Friedrich Blühmel, along with instrument builder C. F. Sattler, invented the first valved trumpet in 1820, which resolved tuning issues and established the trumpet's contemporary design and capabilities. Thus, the modern trumpet was born in 1820 through the collaborative work of Stölzel, Blühmel, and Sattler, building on earlier contributions like Weidinger's keyed trumpet invention.
