Tidal is currently majority-owned by Block, Inc., the financial technology company formerly known as Square, founded by Jack Dorsey. Block acquired a majority stake in Tidal in March 2021 for about $297 million, and as of June 2022, Block owned approximately 86.8% of Tidal. Jay-Z, who was the original owner and face of the streaming service, continues to hold a seat on the board of directors but no longer owns the majority of the company.
