Jane Goodall was married twice. Her first husband was Baron Hugo van Lawick, a Dutch nobleman and wildlife photographer, whom she married in 1964. They had one son together, Hugo Eric Louis, and divorced in 1974. In 1975, she married Derek Bryceson, the director of Tanzania’s national parks and a member of Tanzania's parliament. He died of cancer in 1980, and Jane Goodall did not marry again after his death, focusing on her work and life with many friends instead.
