YouTube is paying President Donald Trump a settlement of $24.5 million to resolve a 2021 lawsuit he filed after the platform suspended his account following the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot. Of this amount, $22 million will be allocated to a nonprofit organization called the Trust for the National Mall to help fund the construction of a new ballroom at the White House, a project Trump supports with an estimated $200 million price tag. The remaining $2.5 million will be distributed to other plaintiffs in the case, such as the American Conservative Union and writer Naomi Wolf. This settlement follows similar agreements with other tech companies like Meta and X, which also settled lawsuits brought by Trump over account suspensions after January 6.
