Aleve (naproxen) can be taken as 220 mg (1 pill) every 8 to 12 hours as needed. For the first dose, you can take up to 440 mg (2 pills) at once. After the first dose, only take 1 pill (220 mg) every 8 to 12 hours. You should not take more than 2 pills in any 12-hour period, or more than 3 pills (660 mg) in 24 hours. Aleve should generally not be taken for more than 10 days in a row for pain without consulting a healthcare professional. It is also advised not to take it for more than 3 days for fever unless directed by a doctor.
