The Eighteenth Amendment created Prohibition in the United States. It was ratified on January 16, 1919, and prohibited the manufacture, sale, and transportation of intoxicating liquors nationwide. It remained in effect until it was repealed by the Twenty-First Amendment on December 5, 1933.
