Prime Minister Narendra Modi has used several Sanskrit shlokas in his speeches and messages. The specific shloka he referred to during the G20 presidency was "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," which means "The world is one family." It is taken from the Hindu scripture the Maha Upanishad and emphasizes global unity. During his speech to urge people to display their collective resolve and strength to fight the coronavirus pandemic, he recited the Sanskrit shloka "Utsaho balavanarya nastyutsahat param balam | Utsaharambhamatrena jayante sarvasampadah." The shloka is from the Mahasubhasitasamgraha, a collection of Sanskrit aphorisms collected from various sources. The shloka means "There is no force greater than our enthusiasm and spirit in this world. There is nothing in the world that cannot be achieved with this force". In another instance, he tweeted in Sanskrit on World Sanskrit Day and urged people to share a sentence in Sanskrit on social media. He also mentioned the theme of Indias G20 Presidency, "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam," which means "One Earth, One Family, One Future". During his speech at the G20 Health Ministers Meet, he recited a Sanskrit shloka that meant "Health is ultimate wealth and with good health every task can be accomplished".
