Emus live exclusively in Australia, covering most of the Australian mainland. They inhabit a wide range of habitats including savannah woodland, sclerophyll forests, eucalyptus forests, heath land, desert shrublands, and open plains. They are rarely found in dense rainforests, very arid deserts, heavily populated areas, or Tasmania where they have become extinct. Emus are nomadic, often traveling long distances for food and water, and their range extends from coastal regions to the interior and even high mountain areas like the Snowy Mountains. Their movement can be seasonal depending on resource availability. Emus are found in all Australian states except Tasmania, and they prefer habitats where food and water are accessible.
