Alinta Energy is owned by Hong Kong–based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE), which is a private investment firm owned by the billionaire Cheng family. CTFE acquired Alinta Energy in 2017 for around A$4 billion. The company operates in Australia and New Zealand and has a significant portfolio of electricity generation and gas retailing assets.
