Hibernation is a power-saving state that is available on laptops and desktops. When a laptop is hibernating, it saves the current state of the system to the hard drive and then shuts down completely, which means it uses zero power. This is different from sleep mode, where the computer continues to draw a little bit of power while in sleep mode. Hibernation is a good option when you know you wont use your laptop for an extended period of time and wont have an opportunity to charge the battery during that time. To hibernate a laptop, you need to turn on the hibernation option in the power settings. When you hibernate your laptop, it will save all your open documents and running applications to your hard drive, and when you turn it back on, it will resume everything where you left off.
