PLF stands for "Premium Large Format". It refers to auditoriums in movie theaters that offer an enhanced movie-watching experience through best-in-class image and sound technology, immersive seating, panoramic screens, and other features. PLF auditoriums are multifaceted and often consist of more than one element, and exhibitors are known to cherry-pick and combine a number of concepts in their approach. Examples of PLF formats include IMAX, Dolby Cinema, Cineworlds Superscreen, and Screen X. PLF screens deliver a more immersive experience through technology, but the concept increasingly includes enhanced design and comfort too.
